Urgent Care vs Emergency Room

Understanding the Difference

Urgent care centers are designed for medical problems that need attention soon but are not life-threatening. They are typically faster, more convenient, and less expensive than the ER.

Emergency rooms are equipped to handle serious, life-threatening conditions. They are open 24/7 and have access to advanced imaging, specialists, and hospital admission if needed.

What if you’re unsure?

It’s common to feel uncertain. Symptoms can be confusing, and what seems minor can sometimes be serious. If you are unsure but the symptoms feel severe, worsening, or unusual, it is safer to choose the ER. If your condition is stable but uncomfortable or concerning, urgent care is often a good starting point. Providers there can evaluate you and send you to the ER if needed.
